And six months ago, Marcus was done.

Not “I need a vacation” done.

Not “maybe I should hire someone” done.

Done done.

Staring-at-the-ceiling-at-3-AM done. Can’t-remember-the-last-time-food-tasted-like-anything done. Body-so-tight-you-wince-when-you-sit-down done.

Marcus had built his consulting business from nothing. Seven years of grinding, hustling, delivering, overdelivering, saying yes when he should have said no, taking calls on weekends, answering emails at midnight, pouring himself into client after client after client.

And for a while? It worked.

The business grew. The reputation grew. The bank account grew.

And then, somewhere around year six - quietly, insidiously, the way these things always happen to people like us – something started to crack.

Here’s what nobody tells you about what burnout actually feels like

People think burnout looks like lying in bed eating chips and watching Netflix.

Sometimes it does. But that’s the end stage.

Before that? Before the full shutdown?

It looks like this:

You wake up at 4:17 AM with your jaw clenched so hard your teeth hurt. You’ve been grinding them in your sleep again – your dentist mentioned it last time, gave you that look, the one that said I’m concerned but I’m not going to push it. You stare at the ceiling. Your mind is already running – client emails, unpaid invoices, that proposal you haven’t finished, the thing you said in that meeting that might have come out wrong. Round and round and round.

You get up exhausted.

You sit down to work and open seventeen tabs. You read the first paragraph of an email three times. You close the laptop. You open it again. You scroll LinkedIn for twenty minutes without absorbing a single word. You realize you’ve been sitting there for two hours and produced exactly nothing.

You’re not lazy. You know you’re not lazy. You built something. But your brain won’t cooperate and you cannot figure out why.

Your body is staging its own protest. Marcus’s was knotted from shoulders to lower back, the kind of tension that lives in your muscles like a permanent houseguest who won’t leave. He’d lost weight without trying. Not in a good way. In the way that happens when stress is eating your body from the inside and your appetite has quietly packed its bags and left.

And then the call came.

His biggest client. The one whose retainer was paying for a nice sports car, eating out and everything you need to feel like a baller in a big city. The one he’d built his entire financial architecture around because, well, because it had always been there.

Until the day it wasn’t.

The call lasted eleven minutes.

And when it ended, Marcus’s revenue went from comfortable to zero.

Not “down.” Not “dipping.”

Zero.

Overnight.

That was the month Marcus started quietly doing the math on what it would cost to shut everything down.

And then he found something he almost didn’t try

Marcus had already done the rounds. You probably know this list by heart because you’ve done them too.

He’d read the books. Highlighted them beautifully. Felt seen and understood for forty-eight hours, then crashed back into the same fog.

He’d seen his doctor. Bloodwork came back “unremarkable” – which is a remarkable word to use on someone who feels like they’re quietly falling apart. Iron: fine. Thyroid: fine. Everything: fine. Patient: not fine.

He’d tried the supplements. The adaptogens. The ashwagandha. The morning Athletic Greens routine that made him feel like a responsible adult for exactly eleven days before the novelty wore off and nothing fundamental had changed.

He’d overhauled his fitness. Threw himself into the gym with the same intensity he threw at everything else. Felt better for a while. Hit a wall harder than before. Added physical depletion to the neurological depletion he was already carrying.

Every single thing he tried moved the needle a little. And left him stuck at the one-yard line.

That’s where he was when we connected.

He almost bailed on the consultation call. He told me later: “I know working with someone can help but I’m not sure this will actually work for ME.”

We talked about his situation anyway.

What I did that nobody else had done

Here’s what didn’t happen: I did not hand Marcus a morning routine PDF and wish him luck.

Here’s what did happen: I sat with him (really sat with him) and did something that sounds almost embarrassingly simple.

I took his life apart.

Not violently. Not dramatically. More like a careful, methodical unpacking. The way you’d empty a room that’s been cluttered for years, picking up each thing, examining it, asking: does this serve you? Is this actually yours or did you inherit it from someone else’s expectations?

His goals. His desires. The gap between what he’d told himself he wanted and what he actually wanted. The expectations – about revenue, about growth, about what “successful consultant” was supposed to look like – that had never once been tested against reality. The business structure that had organic-growth-crisis written all over it but that nobody had ever mapped out and shown him clearly.

And then – slowly, systematically – we started building.

Not a generic morning routine. His morning routine. Built around his brain, his rhythms, his specific flavor of burnout, his nervous system’s particular way of getting stuck.

Not productivity hacks. Neurological retraining.

Week by week, we worked on what I call the Dopamine Switch – the specific, repeatable practices that rebuild your brain’s ability to shift between drive and recovery. Between output and restoration. Between the hustle your ambition needs and the genuine recharge your nervous system has been screaming for.

And here’s what happened, in Marcus’s own words:

“It felt like coming home to myself.”

And then the results started coming in

The sleep came back first. Not perfectly. Not overnight. But the 4 AM ceiling-staring sessions got fewer. The jaw unclenched. The body, that knotted, protesting body that had been carrying three years of accumulated tension started, slowly, to release.

The weight stabilized. His digestion, which had been a disaster for so long he’d almost accepted it as normal, started behaving like a human digestive system again. Turned out chronic stress had been waging war on his gut for years. When the stress regulation got better, the gut got better. His doctor, at the next checkup, actually asked what he’d changed.

The fog lifted. Not all at once. But the seventeen-tab paralysis became ten tabs. Then five. Then he started having mornings where he sat down, opened one thing, and worked. Actually worked. For hours. Like he used to.

He stopped dreading Mondays.

Then he stopped dreading Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays.

Then one Friday he realized he’d made it through an entire week without that low-grade dread humming under everything like a broken appliance you’ve learned to tune out.

And the business?

He rebuilt his roster, not frantically, not desperately, but from a place of genuine competence and calm that clients could feel on every call. The clients came. Then more clients came. Then better clients came.

He ended up with twice as many as he’d had before the bottom fell out.

Twice.

From eleven minutes away from zero to twice the clients.

And the only thing that fundamentally changed?

His brain learned to switch.

So why am I telling you Marcus’s story?

Because Marcus is not unique.

He’s one of many. High performers, founders, executives, builders: people who came to me at various stages of the same quiet unraveling. Different industries. Different specifics. Same stuck brain. Same rigid, depleted, jammed-in-survival-mode nervous system that no supplement or book had been able to unlock.

And I’m telling you because if any part of Marcus’s story made you lean forward, if the 4 AM ceiling, the foggy tabs, the body that won’t unknot, the dread that follows you into weekends, if any of that hit a little close to home,

Then you should know that the switch is real.

It’s not a metaphor. It’s a specific, trainable neurological capacity that your brain has lost and can get back.

And I know exactly how to rebuild it.

Here’s what happens next

This newsletter is where I share the real mechanics of all of this.

Stick around and you’ll get field notes from the trenches. The neuroscience made practical. The honest breakdown of what works, what doesn’t, and why.

And if you’re ready to go further, if you want to find out exactly where your brain is stuck and what it would take to build your switch, there’s a one-on-one consultation for that.

It’s structured. It’s specific. And it starts with a real conversation.

To find out if you’re a fit, send me a message:

But before you do anything else.

I want you to sit with one question.

When was the last time you felt genuinely, sustainably like yourself?

Not the performed version. Not the “I’m fine, just tired” version. The actual you – sharp, energized, present, capable, maybe even enjoying what you built.

How long ago was that?

Because that version of you isn’t gone.

The switch is just off.

And that, unlike so many things, is actually fixable.

— Anna, The Dopamine Queen 👑

P.S. Tried a bunch of things already to feel less ‘tired’? Or your business. Maybe your marriage. Definitely your sanity.

But first, sit down, and give me five minutes of your undivided attention.

Seriously. Do it now. I’ll wait.

...

Okay. Good.

Here’s the thing nobody in the burnout space wants to admit out loud:

All those fixes you’ve tried? They’re not really fixing anything.

The supplements. The meditation apps with the soothing British voice. The 4-day workweek experiments. The “getaway” weekend where you stared at a wall in an Airbnb and called it healing.

Cool aesthetics. No results.

You’re back at your desk Monday morning feeling like a browser with 47 tabs open and a laptop fan screaming for mercy.

And you know it. That’s what kills me.

You know it. Yet here you are, six months deeper, still typing “best adaptogens for burnout” into a search bar at 1:47 AM like the answer is one more mushroom powder away.

It’s not.

Let’s play the advantages game

So let me ask you something.

Imagine we’re both high-performers: founders, operators, elite athletes, whatever your flavour is, and we’re locked in a contest. The last one standing without completely losing their mind wins.

You can have anything you want on your side. Willpower. A personal chef. A therapist on speed dial. Cryotherapy three times a week. Eight figures in the bank. A sabbatical in Lisbon.

Go ahead. Stack your deck.

Me?

I only want one thing.

One single, solitary advantage.

And if you give it to me — I will outlast, outperform, and out-recover every single person in that room. Not by a little. By a mile.

You want to know what it is?

A switch!

A brain that can switch.

That’s it. A brain that can slam into hustle mode: sharp, locked in, firing, and then, on demand, flip into genuine recharge. Not “I watched Netflix for three hours but kept checking Slack” recharge. Actual recharge. Dopamine refuel. Nervous system cool off. Joy coming back online.

And then flip back into hustle mode.

Fast. Clean. Effortless.

No gear-grinding. No two-day recovery tax. No staring at your to-do list like it’s written in ancient Sumerian.

Just... switching.

That’s the whole game. And almost nobody is playing it.

Here’s why you’re stuck.

Burnout isn’t about working too hard. I know that’s what every LinkedIn thought leader with a “recovering workaholic” bio wants you to believe, but it’s not true.

Burnout is about your brain getting jammed in one gear.

Prolonged stress does something nasty to your neurology. It locks you into what researchers call survival overdrive: your prefrontal cortex goes partially offline, your dopamine system runs on fumes, and your brain literally loses the ability to shift states. It’s not a motivation problem. It’s not a discipline problem. It’s not even a work-life balance problem.

It’s a flexibility problem.

Your brain forgot how to switch.

And here’s the brutal irony: many burnout “solutions” make it worse. Because they either try to force more hustle (boss babe mode 👑) or they demand you get into your soft girl era and renounce ambition completely.

Neither works for people like us.

Because people like us still have things to build.

Burnout fixes greatest hits

Let me walk you through the greatest hits of burnout fixes, and why they keep leaving you face-down on the mat.

The Self-Help Book Phase. Oh, this one feels so good in the moment. You’re highlighting passages, dog-earing pages, sending quotes to your group chat. You feel seen! Understood! Validated! And then... nothing changes. Reading about burnout while burning out is like watching cooking videos instead of eating. Comforting. Completely useless.

Aggressive Fitness. Oh this one’s my favorite delusion. “I’ll out-exercise the burnout.” So you add a 6AM crossfit class to your already-destroyed schedule and wonder why you feel worse in three weeks. Genius. Truly.

The Supplement Stack. NAD+. Ashwagandha. Lion’s mane. Magnesium glycinate. Methylene blue, if you’ve really gone down the rabbit hole. Yes, I love this stuff and it has merit if you actually remember to take it. But you’re trying to dope a stuck brain. You’re pouring premium fuel into an engine with a broken transmission. The car still won’t move right.

The Medical Route. Smart to rule out the real stuff — thyroid, iron, heart weirdness. Go do it. But here’s what your doctor cannot prescribe: brain flexibility. They’ll patch the symptoms. Your nervous system stays stuck. Better bloodwork, same zombie feeling.

Therapy. Look, therapy has genuine value, and I mean that. But for high performers, it can spiral into years of excavating childhood wounds while your business quietly catches fire in the background. Valuable archaeology. Zero guidance on how to actually rebuild your performance.

Generic Burnout Coaching. Finally, someone who gets it! Except... they keep telling you to “slow down.” To “honor your rest.” To “redefine success.” And you’re sitting there nodding politely while internally screaming I DON’T WANT TO SLOW DOWN FOREVER, I WANT MY EDGE BACK.

See the pattern?

Every single one of these approaches either ignores the brain entirely or tries to bully it into submission.

None of them teach it to switch on and off.

The brain science to get you unstuck

That’s exactly what the Dopamine Switch Method does differently.

It’s not a vibe. It’s not a manifesto. It’s a neuroscience-backed protocol built specifically for people who refuse to choose between ambition and happiness, because that’s a fake choice and we both know it.

The method works by directly targeting brain flexibility. Training your neural circuitry, through specific, sequenced protocols, to shift states on command. Hustle when the moment calls for it. Recharge completely when it’s time. Then hustle again.

No quitting. No guilt spiral. No lost momentum.

Just the switch. Flipping On and off. On and off.

The science isn’t new, McEwen’s work on allostatic load, Arnsten’s research on stress hijacking the prefrontal cortex, Salamone’s dopamine studies, it’s all sitting in academic journals. The Dopamine Switch Method just finally packages it for people with actual lives and real ambitions.

How a flexible brain is different

So here’s what you get when your brain finally learns to flex:

You wake up and you can choose your state, focused and locked in, or genuinely rested, instead of just waking up and rolling with whatever neurochemical disaster the night left behind.

You stop that 3PM wall. You know the one. Where your brain turns to warm cream cheese and every email feels like a philosophical crisis.

Your mood stops being a weather system nobody can predict. Anxiety drops. That low-grade dread that’s been riding shotgun for two years? It starts to lift.

And your performance, your actual, sustainable, legacy-building output, goes up. Not because you’re grinding harder. Because you’re finally recovering fully between rounds.

That’s what flexibility buys you. Not a slower life. Sure, maybe you’re not eating like a rabbit, or Aunt Flo’s visits are too long, or your gut’s playing nutrient absorption tricks. Yeah, those can tank your iron. But here's what will make your jaw drop:

Women with “normal” serum iron/hemoglobin on lab tests are still wiped out, foggy, and feeling like roadkill. Why? Because those tests are LIARS! They miss the real story: your ferritin, that’s your iron savings account, the backup stash your body dips into to keep blood pumping, is dangerously low. You’re running on fumes! And that’s what we call burnout, baby. And if you already tested your ferritin levels and they are low, keep reading.

Guess where your iron goes? Chronic stress turns your iron absorption into a cruel joke. When you’re stressed out of your mind – and who isn’t these days? – your body CRAVES more iron. A TON more. Your metabolism revs and burns through reserves like a shopaholic maxing out credit cards at Christmas. You’re overdrafting your energy account daily… living energy paycheck to paycheck… until BAM – BURNOUT!

It’s like a leaky bucket. You pour in iron supplements (do it, follow your doc’s orders!), but if you don’t plug the holes, it’s GONE by next cycle. Those holes? STRESS. Chronic, soul-sucking stress that keeps guzzling your iron and leaves you a hollowed-out shell.

Wouldn’t it be smart to plug those holes FIRST? Heck yes!

Let me tell you about MY burnout hell. Years back, I was grinding like a madwoman. Family drama exploding left and right… a barrel of mental grenades blowing up non-stop… day and night, stress chewing me alive. I thought, “Nah, I’m just busy. Tough it out.” WHAT A SAP I WAS!

If I hadn’t hunted down every damn stressor – one by ONE – and CRUSHED them? I wouldn’t be here writing this out for you.

People DO live in permanent burnout, you know! A guy like that messaged me once: his profile pic had bags under his eyes like he’d been punched by life, snappy as a cornered dog. His questions were pointed, his responses distracted with a dash of misery... I asked how long he’s been like that. He told me: too long to change. I don’t waste time with people like that. But also, don’t be that guy or girl!

You’re reading this because you WANT OUT. Good! Because 90% of stress is IN YOUR HEAD, looping thoughts, worries, “what ifs” draining you dry.

That’s why I created the DOPAMINE SWITCH METHOD. It’s been battle-tested on my clients. It flushes those stressors right OUT OF YOUR HEAD and lets your energy roar back to life. Normal life. Normal iron levels. NO MORE BURNOUT BLACK HOLE.

Oh, and listen to your doctor: Get that ferritin topped up. NOW. But don’t stop there, that’s like mopping the floor in a hurricane. Hit the stress. Flip the switch. RAVE about life again!

Sincerely,
Your Girl Dopamine Queen.

Join the Dopamine Coaching waitlist!

Why you’re buying skincare & supplements in bulk (and still feel empty inside)

It starts with the feeling that “something is off,” long before you’d ever use words like burnout or depression.

Dopamine Queen

It starts with the feeling that “something is off,” long before you’d ever use words like burnout or depression.

You’re still going to work, still seeing friends, still posting on social media. But quietly, your browser history and your credit card statements are telling a different story.

This shopping pattern is a warning sign

It usually looks harmless, even healthy.

You’re suddenly obsessed with “cozy”: candles, blankets, matching loungewear, the perfect mug. You’re filling online carts with skincare, supplements, gym gear, yoga memberships, wellness gadgets—often in bulk, often faster than you can actually use any of it.

On the surface, it looks like self-care. Underneath, it can be an early warning sign.

My healthy shopping obsession

Looking back at my own pre-burnout state, I can see this pattern so clearly.

My shopping urges were almost out of control. I was buying makeup, serums, supplements, “healthier” snacks, workout clothes, anything that promised to make me look or feel a little bit better. Packages arrived faster than I could open them. Half-used bottles and barely-touched products piled up in my bathroom and kitchen.

If you’d asked me then, I would’ve said, “I’m just taking care of myself.” In reality, I was trying to buy my way out of a feeling I didn’t yet know how to name.

More then just a wellness obsession

Here’s what’s so unnerving about this: the ideal customer for the modern wellness industry is often the woman who is quietly sliding toward burnout or depression.

The wellness market has exploded, supplements for everything, trackers for everything, “solutions” for everything. But rarely do we talk about who is buying all of this, and the state they’re in when they click “add to cart.”

What feels like “I’m investing in myself” can sometimes be “I’m trying to keep myself from falling apart.”

According to psychologists, buying a lot of wellness related items is a pattern that often shows up before women go into a depression.

Where are you on this spectrum?

Read through these levels and notice where you recognize yourself most.

Level 1: The Curious Wellness Shopper

Description: You enjoy wellness products and like trying new things, but it still feels playful and occasional.

You might notice:

- You buy a new serum or supplement here and there, and you actually use it.

- Purchases feel like fun, not urgent.

- You can go weeks without buying anything “wellness-y” and feel fine.

Level 2: The Hopeful Fix Seeker

Description: You’ve started to believe that the right product will finally make you feel “like yourself” again.

You might notice:

- You’re scrolling wellness content and product reviews most days.

- You tell yourself “this one will be different” as you buy a new cream, pill, or gadget.

- You feel a little rush when you order, and mild disappointment when it doesn’t change much.

Level 3: The Compulsive Wellness Shopper

Description: Your wellness shopping feels less like a choice and more like a compulsion.

You might notice:

- You buy cozy things, makeup, skincare, supplements, gym gear or classes in bulk, “just in case.”

- Many of these items sit unopened or half-used, but you keep buying more.

- You feel restless, empty, or low, and your first instinct is to browse for something new.

Level 4: The Silent Cry For Help

Description: Shopping is no longer about products, it’s about numbing and distraction.

You might notice:

- You feel increasingly drained, unmotivated, or detached from life, even as your “self-care” collection grows.

- The packages arriving give you a brief spike of relief, then you sink back into the same heaviness.

- You’re starting to feel ashamed or secretive about how much you’re buying, but you don’t know how to stop.

If you see yourself in Level 3 or 4, your shopping might not be “just a habit.” It may be your brain chasing quick dopamine hits to cope with an underlying burnout or depression brewing under the surface.

Answer these questions privately

Take a second and answer these silently:

How much of what you’ve bought in the last 3–6 months is actually being used consistently?

Do you feel more excited about *buying* wellness items than actually doing the habits they’re supposed to support?

When you feel low, anxious, or empty, how often do you reach for your phone to browse “self-care” or “health” products?

If you weren’t feeling this exhausted, numb, or overwhelmed, would you still be shopping like this?

Sometimes, the cart you keep filling is saying what you’re not yet ready to say out loud.

Burnout, dopamine and why shopping feels so good (until it doesn’t)

Here’s what might be happening under the hood.

Phase 1: Overload

You’re under constant pressure—work, responsibilities, emotional load. Your nervous system doesn’t get real rest, only micro-breaks and distractions.

Phase 2: Dopamine Drift

You start craving quick hits of “feel-good” chemicals: the anticipation of a package, the novelty of a new product, the fantasy of a “new you.” Shopping gives you a tiny spike of dopamine, even if your actual life isn’t changing.

Phase 3: Emotional Shutdown

The deeper burnout or low mood becomes, the more you lean on easy dopamine (scrolling, buying, consuming) instead of doing the harder, slower things that actually restore you. The problem: the shopping doesn’t fix the root cause. So you end up with both: mounting burnout or depression, and a shopping habit that keeps trying (and failing) to compensate.

That’s the double trap: you’re chasing dopamine through ways that never touch the real issue, which keeps you stuck.

How to break the cycle

If nothing changes, this pattern usually doesn’t just “go away”

The cycles get tighter: more overwhelm, more emptiness, more desperate clicks on “buy now,” more stuff around you, less relief inside you. Over time, that can slide into a quieter, heavier depression and a feeling that you’re losing control of your own life.

But if you catch this early and address the dopamine burnout piece directly, the picture looks very different. You can shift from chasing tiny highs in your shopping cart to feeling genuinely energized by things like real rest, movement, meaningful work, connection, and small wins you’re proud of.

How you can fix this

When I finally addressed my burnout and retrained my dopamine system, something surprising happened: my shopping urges shrank.

I no longer needed endless creams, lip glosses, or supplements “just in case.” I chose a few go-tos that truly worked for me and stopped feeling pulled toward every new thing. My home felt calmer, my bank account thanked me, and my confidence came not from what I owned, but from how I was in control of it all.

How about you? And it’s sabotaging your workflow in ways you haven’t connected yet.

The Coffee-Dopamine Crash You Never Saw Coming

For neurotypical folks, a cup of coffee is a pick-me-up.

But for ADHD brains? Coffee’s not just about energy — it's a temporary dopamine crutch.
That latte you worship every morning is trying to do the heavy lifting your dopamine system struggles with.

Except over time…
That system? Gets burned out.
It stops responding.
Coffee doesn’t wake you up — it just drains the last drops of fuel from your already-depleted tank.

What It Looks Like When Coffee Quits and Dopamine Dips

Let’s spell it out.

Here’s what most ADHD-preneurs notice when coffee stops working — and they don’t realize dopamine’s the real issue:

You wake up already dreading your to-do list.
Even stuff you wanted to do yesterday feels like a chore now.

You need more time to start “getting into gear.”
What used to take 1 coffee now takes 3 hours of pretending to be busy.

You lose steam after lunch — like clockwork.
And you start chasing random dopamine hits: snack, scroll, second coffee, online shopping.

You're hyper-scheduling, but nothing's getting done.
Time-blocking. Color-coding. Airtable-ing your whole life. Still behind.

You don’t feel the “why” behind your goals anymore.
The vision's there, but the drive? Ghosted.

Let’s call this what it is:
Dopamine burnout disguised as caffeine fatigue.

And yes — this has everything to do with ADHD.

4 Ways It Wrecks Your Workflow + Time Management

When your brain’s low on dopamine, your whole productivity system unravels:

You plan tasks, but never start them.
The dopamine required to initiate? Picture this: instead of the usual late-night club scene, you roll up at 11 AM, grab a coffee and a croissant, and dance your butt off to a killer DJ set. A whole new kind of party.

One of my girls picked us up in a convertible, music blasting, excitement pumping—we were ready to tear up the dance floor. But as we got closer, reality hit us. A two-block-long lineup. In the cold. In the wind. Some of these people hadn’t even slept—they came straight from clubbing and had already been waiting for over an hour.

Now, I love a good party, but I’m not about to spend my birthday freezing in line. So we pivoted.

Brunch it was—at one of the best spots in town. And let me tell you, we had just as much fun eating, laughing, and dishing as we would’ve had dancing. And we also did do some dancing while waiting for a table, providing free entertainment for other diners (which we sadly didn’t get tipped for).

Now, let’s talk about my friends.

We’re a wild mix. We’ve got the party girl, the responsible one, the adventure junkie, and the deep thinker. A real spectrum of personalities. I learned so much from each one of them. And that’s exactly how I see coaching. There’s no one-size-fits-all. No two people have the same personality or life experience. And just like in my friend group, where we balance each other out, coaching becomes an additional input to complement your natural strengths and fortify your (temporary) weaknesses.

That’s what I love about coaching, being the creamer in the coffee that brings together the beverage of personal greatness.

Happy birthday to me, and anyone else celebrating.

Here’s to making our breakdown our greatest strength. 🥂

Dopamine Queen.

<a class="image-link image2 test:

Do you scroll instead of working and struggle to stop?

Do you get bored easily?

Do simple tasks (like laundry or dishes) feel like they take forever?

Do you watch videos on 2X speed?

If you answered yes, you’ve got TikTok Brain—even if you’ve never touched the app.

What’s TikTok Brain?

TikTok Brain happens when your mind gets overloaded by today’s fast-paced, dopamine-packed media.

Think about it:

Instagram Reels hit you with rapid visual changes designed to keep you hooked.

Short videos cram entire book chapters into 60 seconds.

Social media updates make sure you know what your cousin had for lunch, right now.

Imagine calling your relatives five times a day to get these updates. That’s what your brain’s dealing with—but without the effort of an actual conversation.

How media hijacks your brain

Our modern media is engineered to keep you engaged at all costs:

YouTube creators trigger dopamine bursts with bright visuals, curiosity-driven hooks, and perfectly timed cuts.

Netflix keeps you bingeing with fast-paced scenes, emotional triggers, and cliffhangers.

Dark stimulation is everywhere: Politics, drama, violence, and edgy protagonists who are serial killers or drug dealers.

It’s no surprise your brain feels foggy after all this. The constant stimulation exhausts your attention span and leaves you distracted.

So what?

You might enjoy this kind of content, and that’s okay. But here’s the thing:

Your brain isn’t built for this much stimulation. When it’s overloaded, it fights back by making you:

Foggy

Distracted

Bored with tasks that don’t spike your dopamine.

That’s your brain trying to tell you something.

Want to take your brain back?

Clear the fog?

Start crushing your daily tasks?

Just cut out overstimulation for a day.

Join me for a FREE dopamine detox.

Follow on Instagram to join in live

Join the Dopamine Coaching waitlist!

Subscribe for free to receive new posts.

Your brain is hallucinating like an AI bot — here’s why important emails keep disappearing

You tell yourself you’re on top of it all.

Dopamine Queen

You tell yourself you’re on top of it all.

You’re handling client work, keeping up with projects, and maybe even making time for lead generation. But then it happens—

You see an email buried in your inbox from five days ago.

A follow-up you meant to send.

A hot lead you never responded to.

You freeze for a second. Your stomach drops. How did you miss that?

The Silent Business Killer: Forgotten Follow-Ups

Entrepreneurs think they have a productivity problem. But really? They have an attentional resource problem.

Your brain isn’t just a machine that runs indefinitely. Your focus is a limited currency, and when it runs low, things slip through the cracks. Not because you’re lazy. Not because you’re disorganized. But because your dopamine levels dictate what gets your attention.

And right now? Your dopamine is being drained by a system that’s working against you.

Why You’re Forgetting (Even If You Swear You’re Not)

Every time you scan your inbox, your brain filters what’s “urgent” vs. what can “wait.” The problem is that urgent doesn’t mean important. It just means whatever triggers the most immediate stress response.

So what happens? The easy dopamine hits get prioritized—finishing a quick task, responding to a DM, checking analytics. Meanwhile, the higher-value actions, like following up with potential clients or replying thoughtfully, take more effort—so they get delayed.

Not because you don’t care. Not because you’re bad at business. But because your brain hasn’t been set up to make the right thing feel easy.

The Cost of “I’ll Get to It Later”

You already know the obvious cost—missed opportunities, slower growth, clients slipping away. But there’s a hidden cost that’s even bigger:

Every time you realize you forgot something important, your brain registers it as a failure. A tiny hit to your confidence. A moment of doubt. And when these stack up, you start feeling more mentally fatigued—even if you’re “doing all the right things.”

That’s how burnout sneaks up on you. Not through working long hours, but through the endless cognitive load of knowing there’s something important you should be doing… but not being able to summon the energy to do it.

The Fix? Replenish Dopamine (Without the Mental Effort)

The solution isn’t to “try harder.” You’ve already done that. The solution is to rebuild the dopamine loops in your brain so the important stuff gets done automatically.

Here’s how:

1️⃣ Make follow-ups feel like a win. Instead of treating them as a “task,” set up micro-rewards. A checklist. A visual progress tracker. Something that gives your brain the quick dopamine hit it needs to feel satisfying.

2️⃣ Reduce the effort barrier. If a task takes more than 20 seconds to start, your brain will resist it. Set up auto-reminders, use templates, or block off a 5-minute window for “easy wins” every day.

3️⃣ Pair follow-ups with something enjoyable. Dopamine rises when anticipation meets reward. Listen to music, have your favorite coffee, or use a fun tool that makes it feel effortless.

Don’t Trust Your Brain To “Remember”

You’re not dropping the ball because you’re careless. Maybe you're waiting for a new lead, a payment confirmation, or that one reply that will finally move things forward.

But let’s be real: 90% of the time, there’s nothing new. And yet, you keep checking. Why? Because this isn’t about logic—it’s about dopamine.

The Dopamine Trap: Why Your Brain Loves Inbox Roulette

Dopamine isn’t about pleasure; it’s about anticipation. It’s what drives you to check for something new, not necessarily enjoy what you find. Every time you refresh, your brain gets a tiny hit of reward potential. If nothing’s there? The cycle continues. If something is there? The cycle strengthens.

This is the same mechanism behind slot machines. Most pulls are duds, but every now and then, there’s a win. And that unpredictability is what keeps you hooked.

For entrepreneurs, this habit gets disguised as “being on top of things.” But in reality, it’s just another way your brain is hijacking your focus.

Breaking the Cycle: How to Take Back Control

If you want to stop compulsively checking your inbox (without missing important updates), here’s how to rewire your brain for real control:

1. Set a Refresh Schedule (And Stick to It)

Instead of checking randomly throughout the day, decide on fixed times when you’ll check and respond to emails. This could be once an hour, three times a day, or whatever fits your workflow. The key is intentionality—don’t let the impulse dictate when you check.

2. Create a Dopamine Alternative

Your brain needs somewhere to get its novelty fix. Instead of inbox roulette, redirect that craving to something actually productive:

Scan industry trends

Read a business insight

Write down a quick win from today

If your brain knows it still gets novelty, it’s less likely to default to checking email.

3. Use ‘Delayed Gratification’ Tricks

Your inbox isn’t a slot machine unless you treat it like one. Break the habit by giving yourself a small reward for waiting longer before checking (e.g., a quick stretch, a coffee break). The longer you delay, the more control you gain over the impulse.

4. Turn Off Unnecessary Notifications

The little red dot? The email pings? They’re engineered to hijack your attention. Turn them off. Train your brain to check when you decide, not when an external trigger demands it.

5. Reframe the Expectation Game

A watched inbox never boils. If you’re waiting on a payment or an important email, mentally detach from the outcome. Trust that it will arrive when it does—and checking won’t speed it up. If anything, redirect that energy into work that actually moves the needle.

Your inbox isn’t your business—it’s just a tool. The more you train your brain to seek dopamine from actual progress (instead of mindless checking), the more focus, momentum, and control you reclaim.

So, next time you feel the urge to hit refresh, ask yourself: Is this helping me, or is this just another dopamine loop? The moment you can spot the difference, you’re already breaking free.

P.S

Ready to recharge your focus? Join me for a free dopamine detox.

Join the Dopamine Coaching waitlist!

Subscribe for free to receive new posts.
